Obituary of Norman Kervin Jackson

In loving memory of Norman Kervin Jackson

Sunrise: February 19, 1962 – Sunset May 07, 2022

Norman Kervin Jackson was born in Philadelphia, PA on February 19, 1962. He was the son of Della Louise Taylor (deceased) and Norman Turner. Kevin, as he was affectionately known, was the oldest of Della’s five children.

Kevin was baptized at an early age and he spent his final months with daily devotion and prayer with his brother Robert by his side. His favorite bible verse was Psalm 23. He graduated from Bartram High School in Philadelphia in 1980 and after high school, he enrolled in the US Army where he served his country honorably for 8 years as a cook. While in the Army, Kevin married Dorinda Austin (his high school sweetheart) and from that union their daughter, Kareema Quick was born. He later divorced his wife and had his son Kevin thru his best friend, Penny Manning. He also has a God daughter, Ronisha Heath (Delaware). Better known as Ronnie, she had been a constant source of strength during the latter stages of his life.

In the year 2000, Kevin received his Associates Degree in Dietary Management from North Dakota State University. For many years, he served and worked in dining facilities across the country, not only for the military but also for colleges, and facilities for special needs children and adults throughout the region. He loved to cook, and to cook out. He would host gatherings in parks, on streets, in his yard or even on his front porch. His favorite dish to prepare was ribs, and he loved to brag how good they were. He loved watching people enjoy them and always made sure all of his neighbors were well fed. As a hobby, he would sit out in the park and offer bottled waters to passersby, start up general conversations and most of all, if he had his teeth in, he’d share that smile with you.

Kevin was not perfect, and at times, he struggled with his feelings about his own short comings, but in the end, he left this life knowing that he was loved and surrounded by people who loved him and most of all, the people whom he loved the most.

God called Kevin home on May 7, 2023. He was preceded in death by his mother, Della Taylor and his youngest sister, Madelynn Garnes. He leaves to cherish his loving memories, his daughter, Kareema and her husband Artimis, their four children (Aziyah, Londyn, Artimus Jr. and Leylani), his son, Kevin, his god daughter, Ronisha, his brother, Robert and sister in law, Darlene Jackson, his brother, Quentin and sister in law, Tonya his sister, Novella, his Aunts, Jean, Novella and Jacqueline, his uncles, Junior, Norman and Ollie and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, all whom he loved dearly
