Obituary of Dean Wilson

Dean Wilson, 78, of Columbia, South Carolina passed away peacefully on August 2, 2019 at Lexington Medical Center West Columbia, South Carolina. She was born on September 19, 1940 in Greenville, South Carolina, and was adopted by her loving parents, the late Ernest and Bonnie (Blalock) Wilson. 

Dean was a graduate of Eau Claire High School in Columbia, SC in 1958. After her graduation, she married Billy J. Matthews.  She worked for many years as a data processor for WIS TV from where she retired.  Dean loved spending time in her garden raising the most beautiful flowers.  She enjoyed the hummingbirds that would visit her.   Dean enjoyed watching her Gamecocks and would take in a game at every opportunity.  What Dean most enjoyed was spending time with her family.  Times spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were precious times for her.  She will be missed by those she loved and those that loved her.

Dean is survived by her soul mate of 61 years, Billy J. Matthews, a daughter Teresa Lynn Kirby, grandchildren; Leland Eugene Kirby III (Lindsey), Amanda Lynn Kirby, (Travis Hawthorne), William Matthew Dean Kirby, (Celia Bader), Jake David Kirby, great-grandchildren; Kyleigh, Jarrod Jr., Olivia, Paisley, Carson, Cash, Greyson, Nathan, Noah and William.  Dean also leaves behind a sister; Lois Miller (Jay), a brother; Ernie Wilson (Linda) and a nephew, Alan Wilson (Shannon).  She left her nieces; Bonnie Cunningham (Brian), and Aynsley Hadley (Nathan) to treasure her memory.

She was predeceased by a nephew Keith Wilson.

Plans for a private memorial service are incomplete at this time.  South Carolina Cremation Society, 3223 Sunset Blvd, Suite 104, West Columbia, SC 29169 is assisting the family.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any children’s charity in South Carolina.
